The Lobito Corridor, comprising Angola,DR Congo and Zambia, is the most strategic of the 15 corridors that exist in Southern Africa, said the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), João Caholo.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting of ministers of the countries connected to the Lobito Corridor, the official justified that the corridor serves as cheaper and shorter link for landlocked countries.
He added that Lobito Corridor contributes to the development of the interior of Angola, including the mining provinces of Lunda Sul, Lunda Norte and Moxico. To this purpose, he argued, the Lobito Corridor can serve as a strategic alternative for the development of business and the economy not only of the three countries, but also the private sector, reason why it is considered the most strategic of the Southern Africa.
According to him, Lobito Corridor is still inaccessible due to armed conflict that affected the country, but the SADCwill provide appropriate support to take its place. The project Lobito corridor falls within the spirit of the SADC Treaty, the Protocol of transport and communications in the region and in legal instruments to which Angola is also member.
The ministerial meeting of the Lobito corridor ended with the approval of documents that will lead to the implementation of projects aimed at rail links of Angola, DR Congo and Zambia.
