From 25 – 29 November 2013, a number of 20 Port & Corridor key-stakeholders from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) visited the Netherlands. SANEC was very delighted to welcome such a diverse delegation, active in the transport & logistics sector, port management, construction & infrastructure, safety & security and training. During this week, there were many activities like the Port & Corridor Cooperation seminar, interactive matchmaking sessions and various site in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague.

Site visits, seminar & matchmaking sessions
The first site visit took place on Monday 25 November at Forkliftcenter in Amsterdam. After a tour and lunch, the delegation visited Waterland Terminal VCK Logistics. Furthermore, the delegation also visited the port of Amsterdam.
The Port & Corridor Cooperation seminar and matchmaking sessions took place on Tuesday 26 November at the South African Embassy in The Hague. Royal HaskoningDHV (NL) kicked-off with their presentation on Corridor Management and Synchromodality. The SADC Secretariat (SA) also gave useful insights on this specific topic. Stig Consult (NL) and Transnet (SA) gave interesting presentations about Port Management and Public Private Partnerships. Last, but not least, the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) gave an informative presentation about Financial Constructions.

Other elements of the Port & Corridor Cooperation seminar included the interactive matchmaking sessions between the Port & Corridor delegation and Dutch counterparts. Many successful interactions were created between the Dutch companies and the delegation from southern Africa. These matchmaking sessions stimulated useful business connections, which already had follow-up in the same week and are still continuing. Curious? Rotterdam and the Port of Rotterdam were visited on Wednesday 27 November. The delegation also visited Shipping and Transport College (STC) and ECT Delta Terminal. The next day, Thursday 28 November, the delegation visited Damen Shipyards, VEKA Shipbuilding and Tygron. The evening ended with the spectacular 12th SANEC Trade & Investment Gala Dinner at Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin. Like all good things, the Port & Corridor Cooperation business mission came to an end on Friday 29 November. The last hot spots were visited, which included Schiphol Area Development Company (SADC), Schenker Logistics and Rhenus Air.
