Mid April 2014, SANEC facilitated a Namibia Roundtable for its members in the Netherlands to discuss several trade and investment opportunities. Port & Corridor development was one of the key issues that were addressed.
Honorary guest was the Permanent Secretary of the Namibian Ministry of Trade and Industry who highlighted opportunities in the fields of logistics (re-development of ports and airports), energy, agro, manufacturing and tourism. The long awaited plans to launch a Namibia – Netherlands Business Platform was reached. The platform will allow members to be informed about facilitated opportunities (e.g. export, investment projects and tenders). In addition, discussions took place to set up a trade mission to Namibia in the second half of 2014.
The Namibian delegation emphasized the importance of the Port & Corridor sector for their country. Key words expressing opportunities in this sector are: shipbuilding, port management, customs, airports, railway, (cold) storage, fishing, logistics, minerals exploration, 99 year land lease possibilities and special economic zones.
